Students will acquire the knowledge and ability necessary to create and maintain a safe and healthy environment.
Students will understand and be able to manage their personal and community resources.
New York State Commissioner’s Regulations require all students to be scheduled in Physical Education each week during each semester of the school year. Physical education is that area of the curriculum in which learning experiences are provided through the medium of motor movement. Physical education involves the social, emotional, intellectual and skill development of your child: Mind, Body and Spirit.
Students are required to attend all regularly scheduled classes. Cchildren should be dressed safely and appropriately for physical education classes. Students in grades 9 - 12 will be using the locker rooms to change into appropriate Physical Education attire. This clothing should not be worn to school. Physical Education attire includes sweatpants or shorts (no zippers, big pockets or loops, and not denim), t-shirt or sweatshirt, socks, and thin soled athletic sneakers.Students must not wear exposed jewelry during any phase of Physical Education class. Religious articles that may not be removed, should be tucked in, covered or secured with tape. Since elementary school students have difficulty removing pierced earrings, the students may wear posts if necessary but only if they have safety backs or are taped. Any hoop or dangling earrings may not be worn at any time.Physical Education Offers:

If the child is excused for more than two consecutive days when they have Physical Education, a doctor’s note is required. For extended absences a doctor’s note is required for your child to return to Physical Education class
“Physical Education is an important component of your child's education”Why is Physical Education Important?
Physical education is important because it provides students with a knowledge of how to maintain and live a healthy lifestyle. Dr. Germund Hesslow an internationally renowned cerebellum researcher at Lund University in Sweden, his expertise is in the research of paralysis caused by spinal cord injuries. When posed the question, "does physical activity increase learning?" Dr. Hesslow responded this way, "No. There are too many variables involved in learning: environments, genetics, attitudes, individual learning capacity, curriculum delivery, learning and teaching strengths, etc." Dr. Hesslow was asked what role does physical activity play in the development of learning?" Dr. Hesslow said that all things being equal, a physically active child will have an ADVANTAGE in learning and that an inactive child is at a disadvantage for learning. Quality physical education provides needed physical activity in the school day and that gives students an advantage for learning, and therefore, may help increase student achievement.
