Gifted and Talented Program
What defines a child as gifted?
According to New York state law, gifted and talented children are defined as "pupils who show evidence of high performances capability and exceptional potential in areas such as general intellectual ability, special academic aptitude and outstanding ability in visual and performing arts. Such definition shall include those pupils who require educational programs or services beyond those normally provided by the regular school program in order to realize their full potential."
Vision
The Gifted and Talented program at Arthur O. Eve School of Distinction will mold students to become creative and critical thinkers through programming designed to ensure the continuous development of advanced learners. Gifted and Talented (GT) education will provide appropriate differentiated instruction for gifted learners which will enable them to reach their maximum potential.
MissionThe Gifted and Talented program will provide learning environments which foster creativity and critical thinking. We will design and deliver rigorous and relevant curriculum to students in grades K-4 to address their academic and intellectual needs. Our mission is not limited to those identified as gifted and talented, rather it encompasses all learners at Arthur O. Eve School of Distinction as we create opportunities that expose all learners to gifted pedagogy. Arts Exploration is a key component of the GT Program at School 61 because it cultivates curiosity and problem solving, which enables students to become deeply engaged in learning and to enjoy the process.
