    About Our Program

School 59 partners with teh Buffalo Museum of Science and Northwest Buffalo Community Center.  The Extended Learning Time program at Dr. Charles R. Drew Science Magnet School offers tutoring for students in all subject areas.  There is over one hour of academic enrichment each day where students have an opportunity to reinforce skills and concepts in math, ELA, and science during the school day.  Students have opportunities to work on 1 to 1 devices to enhance their skill development with programs such as MyON, Core 5, Powerup, Star Math, Zearn, and Prodigy.   Students in grades 6-8 have an opportunity to take a course that offers an introduction to the French language with a certified instructor.   We also have a STEM program in partnership with the Buffalo Museum of Science and Cullen Foundation to offer hands-on learning experiences Monday through Friday for students in grades K-4.

The Extended Learning Time program at Dr. Charles R. Drew Science Magnet School operates five days a week at both the Museum Site, grades 3-8, and at the Annex site in grades K-2.  Approximately 250 students participate in the after school program which is offered Monday-Friday.  Teachers at the school make up the majority of afterschool program staff, therefore, are able to continue to build positive relationships and work ethic with students.   The Character Counts program is built into the school framework making it a part of the afterschool program as well.
