• Welcome

I would like to introduce myself, my name is Lydia Fernandez and I am the new School Social Worker here at The Academy School 131 at 18A. I am a Licensed Master’s Social Worker and Certified School Social Worker. This is my second year as a School Social Worker; I previously worked in a charter school setting as a School Social Worker and with Say Yes Buffalo as a Family Support Specialist providing intensive preventive services to families.  Formerly, I was a Bilingual Substance Abuse Counselor and before that, I was Bilingual Therapist and Functional Family Therapist for children, adolescent, and families.

I am excited to be a part of The Academy School family. They are a great team of dedicated professionals here to assist our students in reaching their highest potential!

I wanted to let parents and guardians know some of the ways that I can be helpful to you and your child. As the School Social Worker, my role is to assist in facilitating increased communication between home and school, to counsel kids at school, and to help parents in coordinating and setting up referrals to the appropriate support staff services in our building such as our Attendance Officer, School Psychologist, Guidance Counselor, Say Yes Buffalo, and Endeavor Health Services Specialists.

I am also available to provide outside resources for support to children and families (i.e. referrals to places such as counseling and family services, financial assistance programs, and other community resources). I am open to talking to any parent or guardian who may have questions or concerns.

My phone number is 816-7180 ext. 1058 and my email address is lefernandez@buffaloschools.org. Please do not hesitate to contact me about anything at all and hopefully I can be of assistance to you and your family!

I look forward to meeting many of you.
