    Be There

    Mentoring Initiative

At Buffalo Public Schools, we know that helping our kids achieve success in school and beyond is an effort that requires a school community approach. Parents, grandparents, family members, teachers, community members all have a role to play in helping our students achieve their dreams.

An important way that community members can help students is to serve as mentors. The Buffalo Public Schools is implementing “Be There” which is a mentoring initiative designed to provide our students with mentors who will serve as caring adults and roles models that will invest their time with meeting the academic, social and emotional, and youth development needs of Buffalo Public School students. Mentoring is when a caring and consistent adult supports a student’s academic, social, emotional, and overall wellness development.  Research shows that an effective mentor can increase students’ success and decrease risky behavior.

“Be There” is an initiative that provides multiple opportunities for adults to get involved in the positive development of youth.  The “Be There” Mentoring initiative seeks to recruit volunteers to be paired with students to support growth in one or more of the following areas:

    1. Academic Supports

    • Literacy Supports
    • Math Supports
    • English Language Supports
    • College Readiness
    • Career Readiness

    2. Youth Development Supports

    • Leadership Development
    • Life Skills Development

    3.  Meaningful Experiences

    • Cultural Enrichment
    • Community Service

We believe that everyone has a vital role to play in helping our students maximize their full potential in achieving success and their dreams. You can help BPS students by volunteering your time and serving as a mentor.  We currently are seeking volunteers to serve as mentors through the following opportunities:
