About Alternate Instruction
The Alternate Instruction Program in the Buffalo Public School District is aligned to the District’s Education Bargain. The philosophy is that all children will be provided with an equal and high-quality education and as educators we must deliver on this essential democratic principle.
The purpose of Alternate Instruction is to maintain continuity of the educational process for those students who are of compulsory school age and who are unable attend school due to suspension. They will be given appropriate instruction and support to maximize their ability to meet academic standards when they return to their home school.
Students assigned to Alternate Instruction will be instructed virtually or in-person. For a student receiving Special Education Services, Alternate Instruction and Interim Alternate Education Setting (IAES) will be provided in an in-person format.
Effective, October 16, 2023, the students in Grades K-6 will receive 2 hours of instruction a day for a total of 10 hours a week. Students in grades 7-12 will receive 3 hours of instruction a day for a total of 15 hours per week.
The parent or caregiver will receive instructions from their child’s home school on how to access Alternate Instruction, including connectivity, start and end dates/times.
