Pre- to Post-Pandemic Assessment Results

  • The presentations below compare 2018-19 to 2021-22 proficiency rates on the the NYS Grades 3-8 English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics assessments. 
    • 2018-19 was the last year the assessments were administered before the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting school closures. 
    • No assessments were administered in 2019-20.
    • In Spring 2021, New York State did administer the assessments, but due to the extraordinary circumstances related to the pandemic, approximately 4 out of 10 enrolled students participated in state assessments in 2020-21. In Buffalo, less than 20% of students participated in the assessments.
    • In 2021-22 most students returned to in-person instruction and the assessments were administered to a large percentage of students across the state.
