 Lou

Louis was sworn in as President on July 1, 2021.

A proud graduate of the Buffalo Public Schools, Lou Petrucci received an excellent education. The 1983 graduate of City Honors tempered his remarks, “Not every child who attends the BPS has the same academic experience that I did. We need to work constantly improve the district so every child is provided a quality education that prepares them for life after high school, whatever path they choose.”

Petrucci and his wife, the former Shannon Gehen, have been married for over 29 years. They are the proud parents of four City Honors graduates: Chelsea, Cara, Meegan, and Molly.

Petrucci attended Allegheny College where he earned degrees in Russian and International Studies.  He would later earn a Master’s in Public Administration from Hilbert College, receiving the St. Catherine Medal for outstanding scholarship and leadership and was nominated to Kappa Gamma Pi, a National Catholic Graduate Honor Society.  In September, Hilbert College will recognize Petrucci with the San Damiano Award as the 2018 Alumnus of the Year.

Petrucci worked to repay the excellent education afforded him by the Buffalo Public Schools by serving as Park District representative to the Buffalo School Board and was honored when his fellow board members elected him president. As president, Petrucci would sign the Say Yes agreement, providing free college tuition for Buffalo Public and Charter school students and the Promise Neighborhood agreement, which promotes a community approach to educating children in high-risk areas. He would also serve on a variety of committees and boards including the Joint Schools Construction Board, as the Executive Director of the Big Five School Districts; and on the Executive Committee of the Council of Great City Schools, which oversees the five largest New York State and 63 largest school districts in the nation, respectively. Recently he served on South Park’s Community Engagement Team.

Before being elected as the Park District representative, Petrucci would sit on the board at the former St. Ambrose School where he would serve as both Treasurer and Board President.

Petrucci has been active in a variety of groups and organizations. He is presently Co-Director of the Buffalo and Erie County Lead Safe Task Force and is the former Board President of Dog Ears Bookstore and Literary Arts Center. He has served on the Buffalo Olmsted Parks Advisory Board, the Erie County Parks Board, and Can You Dig It, Inc., an organization dedicated to neighborhood improvement. He is an active college alumnus, serving as a class agent as well as on his fraternity’s house corporation. He is also involved with the Buffalo Chapter of the American Society of Public Administrators.

Petrucci works for the City of Buffalo, where he is presently serving as the Assistant Director of the Department of Permit and Inspection Services, and is a member of AFSCME Local 650.
