Bob Scott Award
Bob Scott Award Recommendation: Jack Bird
It is with great honor that I strongly recommend Jack Bird to receive the Bob Scott Award as it recognizes the senior player who has gone above and beyond service to his team, school and community. As expressed in the criteria, Jack truly honors the game of lacrosse. Jack is the backbone, anchor, leader, pillar and role model of our program. He brings enthusiasm and intensity that every coach wishes all players bring to the game. As a 2-year team captain, he is both a student and teacher of the game. He has volunteered his time to work our sponsored Buffalo Public School youth summer lacrosse camps. Taking the lead and understanding the importance of that face-off - he has organized FO groups with others within the community to train and teach this craft. Furthermore, Jack participated in a lacrosse charity event called “Headstrong foundation faceoff against cancer.” The foundation donates money to cancer patients to relieve the cost of treatments and other expenses related to the disease. Monies donated are based off the success of winning face-offs while participating in varsity high school games. He won 73% of his face-offs raising over $300 for the cause.
Along with participating for local box and field lacrosse teams, Jack is also on the developmental team for England’s u20 team to take on the world championships next summer. He trains every few months for this endeavor.
Concluding, Jack is one of the original players of the BPS program and the first receive a scholarship and will be attending division 1 university - UMASS LOWELL. Jack currently attends City Honors High School. According to US News, City Honors School at Fosdick Masten Park is ranked #142 in the National Rankings. Schools are ranked on their performance on state-required tests, graduation and how well they prepare students for college. #15 in New York High Schools, #1 in Buffalo, NY Metro Area High Schools, #1 in Buffalo City School District High Schools. Jack’s 4-year GPA is 3.2
