MST’s students in Syracuse pose after presenting the Community Awareness project that their HOSA chapter, as part of MST High school Medical Pathways did throughout the year. Blood pressure screening and Stroke recognition awareness was the volunteer theme for the 2018-2019 school year. Students participated in three voluntary community events to take blood pressure readings and give a class on early stroke recognition and the need for a FAST response. At the end of March all students in the program screened the students and staff at MST for hypertension. Nearly 50% of the MST community participated.
Afroza Zabed and Bikash Biswa share their finalist display on a health career that was also presented at the HOSA Spring Conference last week. Both Freshmen students aspire to become cardiac thoracic surgeons.
The above students were joined by Kaniya Simmons, Ajwad Zaim, and Fiston Mutabazi in producing a 30 second Public Service Announcement on tobacco use. All five of the students achieved a community service recognition from HOSA New York for excellence and professionalism demonstrated throughout the three day conference.
