Hello Buffalo Schools' Junior and Senior students, parents and guardians.
In conjunction with Mayor Byron Brown’s Summer Youth Program, Northland Workforce Training Center will be offering a 6-week Summer Youth Program that will offer an educational/internship experience focused on career opportunities in advanced manufacturing and energy. In addition to OSHA 10 Certification to ensure you understand the safety practices necessary for entry into manufacturing and energy careers, students will participate in five 1-week immersion experiences in welding, machining, mechatronics, electrical and emerging energy technologies taught by industry representatives, as well as attend weekly field trips visiting partner companies.
The program runs from July 6th through August 13th from 9:00 am – 1:00 pm at the training center at 683 Northland Avenue in Buffalo. We are able to offer transportation assistance (Metro passes) and students earn $11.80 per hour of training. Finally, students will receive assistance with completing college applications to schools of their choice.
In order to be considered for this opportunity, you need to complete the Mayor Summer Youth application. Specifically, you will need to write in Northland Workforce Training Center for the question “Requested Worksite” at the bottom of the application. To complete this application, you will need your birth certificate, your social security card, your proof of address (a bill with you parent’s name and address on it), and your working papers. Pictures of these documents will be acceptable for the application.
