December is always a fun month in school and Pre-K is no exception. At the beginning of the month, Santa sent an elf named Snowflake to our classroom to compile a nice list.
This month we were thrilled to take our very first field trip! We went to UB to see the Nutcracker. The show was fantastic, but some friends thought riding the bus there and back was the best part.
We spent a whole week in class talking about the Nutcracker. We listened to different versions of the story and watched clips of the ballet on YouTube. The students learned what real nutcrackers were and used them to crack nuts. We also turned the real nutcrackers into greater than/less than symbols to compare numbers. In the dramatic play area, students used tutus to act out scenes from the ballet.
We baked and frosted cookies this month and we made lots of craft projects for our families. We are continuing to learn the letters of the alphabet and to practice rhyming and isolating sounds in words.
Parents, thank you for dressing your children so warmly for school. We will continue to go outside during the winter months as weather permits. Please don't forget to label those hats and mittens, though. We have a teal set right now that doesn't seem to have an owner. I'm including a picture, please let me know if it belongs to your child.
Don't forget to take a look at the rest of our December slide show here. If I do not have a photo release on file for your child, his/her face will be blocked out.
