Putting children and families first to ensure high academic achievement for all
    • Good afternoon,

Due to the new safety measures put in place by the district to keep safety our number one priority, administration has made some changes to our arrival and dismissal protocols effective immediately TO MAKOWSKI.

      Late and Tardy Students

      • No parents/guardians/caregivers will be permitted in the building regardless of grade level
      • Student will be buzzed in and directed to the main office
Leaving early for appoints of any type

      • Parents/guardians/caregivers need to call the school the morning of the appointment and state the student(s) name and time they will be picking them up for their appointment
      Dismissal/Early Pickups

      • Parents/guardians/caregivers that pick their student(s) up early daily will be required to complete a form registering their student(s) to be picked up daily. This will alleviate them having to call every day. If this form is not completed, they will need to call daily for prior authorization.
      • Please encourage parents/guardians/caregivers to utilize the Jefferson Walker door as it is extremely efficient and will be opening earlier starting today.
      • The Jefferson Walker door will now be opened at 3:35 daily.
      • Parents will not be permitted to pick their student(s) up from the main office after 3:25.
      • After 3:25 early pickups will be sent to the walker door and parents will be directed to sign them out there.
      Clinic

      • Any student(s) that is sent home from the clinic for being sick etc. the clinic will notify the main office of the name of the parent coming to pick the student up and this will act as prior authorization.

    • BUFFALO PUBLIC SCHOOLS ACTION:  NEW RULES IMPLEMENTED, EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATLY:

The safety and security of our students and staff is our highest priority!  After the horrific Buffalo and Texas Mass Shootings, any person who wishes to enter a school MUST call ahead and obtain prior approval to entering the building.  This includes parents, caregivers, siblings, and vendors; NO EXCEPTIONS will be made.

For the safety of all, the doors at each of our school locations will remain locked during the school day.  There are camera monitors at the front entrance of each of our school sites.  If reporting for a scheduled meeting, ALL visitors will need to announce their name and the name of their child to be buzzed into the school.  Upon entry, visitors may be subjected to a wanding and/ or a search process for additional safety measures.  The Buffalo Police Department and/or Buffalo Public Schools Security staff will have a presence in and around schools for an undetermined amount of time.  Thank you.

Walker/pick up doors open at 3:45. You MUST BE HERE by then to pick up your child or the child will be placed on the bus.

    • Parents-

We appreciate your flexibility and patience with us during this time with our transportation concerns.

Please know we are doing everything possible at the school level to alleviate this issue. However, our busses are arriving and leaving later than usual so they will be getting to the stops later as well. It could be up to an hour late at times.

Please download the app to assist you in tracking your child's bus.

This will give you a time and location of each bus.

Again, thank you for your patience at this time. We are truly working together!!

    • Good morning Makowski Families-

Just as a reminder for dismissal procedures for WALKERS.

You need to be at the Jefferson Door between 3:45 and 4pm. Doors close at 4pm and if your child is still here, he/she will need to be picked up. If the bus is still here, he/she will be placed on the bus and you will have to meet them at the bus stop.

Should you need to pick up your child for the day, you MUST write a note to the teacher. We are NOT accepting phone messages.

If you are not here by the time your child's bus arrives, your child will be put on the bus and sent to the scheduled stop. You will need to meet the child at that location.

If there is NO NOTE sent to the teacher stating that the child will get picked up, the CHILD WILL BE PLACED ON THE BUS and SENT TO THE SCHEDULED STOP.

If you have any questions please contact the school.

What is the Primary Years Program (PYP)?

The International Baccalaureate® (IB) Primary Years Programme is a curriculum framework designed for students aged 3 to 12.

The PYP transdisciplinary framework focuses on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both at school and beyond.

Informed by research into how students learn, how educators teach, and the principles and practice of effective assessment, the programme places a powerful emphasis on inquiry-based learning.

      What the PYP offers students

By choosing to implement the PYP, schools will develop students’ academic, social and emotional wellbeing, focusing on international-mindedness and strong personal values. The PYP nurtures independent learning skills, encouraging every student to take responsibility for their learning.

The programme incorporates local and global issues into the curriculum, asking students to look at six related, transdisciplinary themes and to consider the links between them. The themes include ‘who we are’, ‘where we are in place and time’ and ‘how the world works’.

      PYP Curriculum

The Primary Years Programme (PYP) presents schools with a comprehensive plan for high quality, international education.

It provides schools with a curriculum framework of essential elements — the knowledge, concepts, skills, attitudes, and action that young students need to equip them for successful lives, both now and in the future.

Schools work with the five elements to construct a rigorous and challenging primary curriculum for international education.

The PYP aims to create a curriculum that is engaging, relevant, challenging and significant for learners in the 3–12 age range. The curriculum is transdisciplinary, meaning that it focuses on issues that go across subject areas.

The PYP is organized according to:
