National Junior Honor Society
Mrs. Ward-Pitman and Ms. Bauer
The purpose of National Junior Honor Society is to teach our students leadership skills through service to our community and school. We do this through school and community projects throughout the school year.
We will invite new seventh and eight grade students to apply for NJHS after the first quarter report cards are out. To be eligible for NJHS, students must maintain a better than 90% average and receive high scores on teacher evaluations. Students interested in joining should begin working hard to achieve these standards starting from day one in September.
NJHS @ Art Park
NJHS Hertel Business Day
NJHS students went on School 81's second annual Hertel Business Day walking field trip. They stopped at so many beautiful urban art murals along their walk. Students went to local businesses to hear from the owners about how they got started in small business and what it takes to be a business owner. They also stopped at the beautiful and historic North Park Theatre to learn about its history. The students asked amazing questions and had so much fun!

2024-2025 NJHS Walking Field Trip
NJHS students took a walking field trip to the Italian Cultural Center on Hertel and Delaware. They took a tour of the "Generations" exhibit which tells the story of Buffalo immigrants through the years. This connected directly with the novel they are reading about a refugee from the Vietnam War. They also learned how to play the Italian game of Scopa. The kids had a great time and perfect walking weather!
