Theory of Action

Attend Today, Achieve Tomorrow #schooleveryday

Steps Towards Improved Student Attendance

  • MONITOR DATA to identify who are the neediest students (attendance).

  • CONSIDER NEEDED SUPPORT once there is an understanding of causes of absences;

  • REVIEW AVAILABLE RESOURCES offered by Community Partners. Streamline services to swiftly and effectively coordinate with school personnel to provide resources to support our students.

  • CONNECT SERVICES TO FAMILIES by facilitating initial meeting, direct connections with resources (i.e. academic, mental health, social services, juvenile justice issues) and provide solutions to improve school attendance.

Attendance Teacher Strategies and Interventions

  • Use multiple ways of reaching students and families all at once, i.e., calls, letters, and home visits Conduct home visits, first visit is supportive and second visit if more direct stressing the importance of daily attendance.

  • Look for patterns in attendance habits, assess academic performance, observe sibling whereabouts and attendance habits.

  • Send letters indicating numbers of days absent, notifying families that absences add up and stressing the compulsory responsibility of students/families.

  • Assess students'/family's' needs to address barriers of non-attendance.
