Our Local Artists
Posted on November 10, 2024 by Madison M..

My name is Madison M. , and I am a freshman guitar major in Performing Arts. This section of the school newspaper focuses on the many artists who live in our big, beautiful city, with the goal of interviewing people who have a burning passion for art in all its forms—visual art, music, theater, dance, film, poetry, photography, media art, and beyond. I hope to serve as an outlet for small, up-and-coming artists while inspiring Performing Arts students as they graduate and grow into the vibrant spectacle of the Buffalo arts community.

Maggie Giamo is a Buffalo-based visual artist born on April 8, 1990, who balances her creative career as an educator, muralist, and working artist. She is an art teacher at Discovery School 67, a visual and mural artist who also takes on custom work, and a chef at Restaurant Daniela in Buffalo when she is not teaching. Maggie has just completed her tenth year of teaching, finished three large-scale murals, and illustrated a book scheduled for publication next year. Creative from a young age, her talent was recognized early by her parents, and she chose to pursue art as a career because it “feeds my soul” and helps her feel deeply connected to herself. She studied at Rochester Institute of Technology during her freshman year, earned her bachelor’s degree from SUNY Cortland, and completed both her teaching certification and master’s degree at Buffalo State University. Her work has been exhibited at her master’s thesis show, Et Museo, Starlight Studio, and the Buffalo Society of Artists members exhibit. As a local Buffalo artist, Maggie plans to continue expanding her mural work throughout the city, finding her greatest fulfillment in mentoring her students and inspiring the next generation of artists.
