Principal Angela Cullen

Dear visitor, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the Research Laboratory High School for Bioinformatics & Life Sciences website!  Welcome!  Whether you are a current student, a prospective student, or a parent, I hope that our website gives you an idea of what it means to be a student at the Research Lab.  Please take a look around, and if you have any questions, feel free to contact me at 816-4700 or via email (acullen@buffaloschools.org).

A little bit about me:

I earned my B.S. in Geology from Buffalo State College and began my educational career in 1998 with the Corning Painted Post School District in Corning, NY.  However, from my first experience as a student teacher at #28 Triangle Academy, my goal was to work for the Buffalo Public Schools.   In August of 1999, I was hired as an Earth Science teacher at Buffalo Traditional School and relocated back to my hometown of Buffalo.   I taught at Buffalo Traditional School from 1999 – 2003, and at Middle Early College High School from 2003 – 2008.

In July of 2008, I was hired in the Office of School Performance as a Supervisor, and in March of 2012, took a promotion as Director in the same office, now known as the Office of School Leadership, where I remained until November of 2016.  I was involved in many different projects and took the initiative during my time in Central Office to attend professional development sessions and continue to grow as an instructional leader, knowing that my ultimate goal was to return to a building as a school leader.

In November of 2016, I was assigned as the Principal at the Research Laboratory High School for Bioinformatics & Life Sciences.   I continue to work closely with the teachers, parents and community stakeholders to develop a program that offers an interactive and engaging environment that includes collaboration with the medical community.  The goal is to create a college preparatory program that will prepare students with the knowledge, skills and experience to enroll in post-secondary science courses of study leading to high-demand careers in a global economy, and hopefully, right here on the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus.  As a former science teacher, I am super excited to expose students in the Research Lab to all of the opportunities available to them in the Buffalo science community!

Outside of my work with our Research Laboratory scholars, I enjoy spending time with my family, my dog, and doing anything outdoors!
