Students at MECHS recently received copies of a book they helped create through a program developed by the Author League. The project combines Holocaust education with students’ personal reflections, encouraging them to critically examine news and social media narratives, understand events from multiple perspectives, and build empathy.
The initiative feels especially timely amid recent acts of violence and hate, helping students recognize the humanity behind tragic events rather than viewing victims as statistics. Educators and program partners emphasize that the experience empowers students to find their voice, see their work in print, and become upstanders in their communities. Students report that the project has strengthened their empathy, deepened self-reflection, and inspired them to think about how they can promote peace beyond the classroom.
