Vision & Hearing Information

Student Medication

If your child must receive medication while at school, please be sure to read over this information in our Family Handbook (available on our webpage).

**In order for a child to receive medication at school, the School Nurse must have the proper release signed by the parent and have a script from the doctor.

Please call our Health Office for any questions.

Student Illness

If your child gets sick, it is often most appropriate to keep him/her home from school. A child who is sick will not be able to perform well in school and is likely to spread the illness to other children and staff. Please make arrangements for childcare ahead of time so you will not be caught without a place for your child to stay if he/she is ill.

Our school policy states that you should not send your child to school if he/she has:

• Fever in the past 24 hours

• Vomiting in the past 24 hours

• Diarrhea in the past 24 hours

• Chills

• Sore throat

• Strep throat – must have been taking antibiotic for at least 24 hours before returning to school

• Bad cold with runny nose or bad cough; especially if it has kept the child awake at night

BPS Lice Policy

BPS District Lice Policy.

To help prevent the spread of lice, we encourage you to take the following steps at home:

How to Check for Lice:

  • Use a fine-toothed comb on damp hair to check for lice or nits (lice eggs), especially behind the ears and at the nape of the neck.

  • Look for small, white or yellowish oval-shaped nits attached firmly to the hair shaft.

  • Adult lice are tiny, grayish-white insects that move quickly.

Tips to Prevent the Spread:

  • Remind your child not to share hats, combs, brushes, hair accessories, or headphones.

  • Keep long hair tied back in braids or ponytails.

  • Regularly wash and dry bedding, clothing, and personal items on high heat.

Please note that lice do not jump or fly—they spread primarily through direct head-to-head contact. Having lice is not a sign of poor hygiene, and it can happen to anyone.

If you discover lice on your child, please notify the school so we can continue to monitor the situation while maintaining confidentiality. If you have questions about lice or how to treat it, you may reach out to your pediatrician as well. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated in helping us keep our school community healthy and informed.
