March is Women’s History Month. BPS proudly celebrates the achievements, leadership, and impact of women in our schools and community — past and present.

February 24: This Day in Black History — In 1926, Carter G. Woodson launched launched a movement, which later grew into Black History Month.
February 22: This Day in Black History — Dr. J. Ernest Wilkins Jr. was a groundbreaking mathematician and engineer whose work opened doors in STEM and education.
February 16: This Day in Black History — In 1862, slavery was abolished in Washington, D.C., an important step toward ending slavery nationwide.

Happy Groundhog Day! A tradition in folklore where a groundhog, specifically Punxsutawney Phil, emerges from his burrow to "predict" the weather. If he sees his shadow, six more weeks of winter are predicted; if not, an early spring is expected.

Throughout February, Buffalo Public Schools celebrates Black History Month by highlighting the history, excellence, and impact of Black communities in Buffalo and beyond.

World Hijab Day, observed on February 1st, raises awareness about the hijab and promotes religious tolerance. It encourages women of all backgrounds to wear a hijab for a day to foster understanding and combat stereotypes.
