Unlike student loans, scholarships do not have to be repaid. Generally, Scholarships are reserved and/or available for students with special qualifications, such as academic, athletic or artistic talent, for students who are interested in particular fields of study, who are members of underrepresented groups, who live in certain areas of the country, or who demonstrate financial need
Your school counselor is a great resource for guiding you through the scholarship process. They can show you where to find scholarships and give you tips for applying.
Categories of Scholarships
Scholarships typically fall into 2 categories
Merit-Based Aid:
Scholarships that are awarded to a student by either a community or local organization or a college, without regard for financial need.
Need-Based Aid:
Financial aid is awarded to a student based on financial need.
