The Western New York Invention Convention is a nonprofit started in 1979 by former BPS Superintendent Marion Cañedo, and offers mentoring services for students in Buffalo Schools to create a novel invention that solves a current challenge.

This year BPS Afterschool Programs, the Science Department, and Western New York Invention Convention are collaborating to support students in this work.

Students will work during the Afterschool program from October through May with a culminating presentation at the BPS STEAM Showcase at the Buffalo State University Campus.

Top winners can move onto the National Invention Convention at the Henry Ford Museum in Detroit, Michigan, where they will have a chance to audition for the Shark Tank television show and meet students from across the U.S.
