Assessment

Upon Prekindergarten enrollment, the BCSD and all collaborating CBO agencies administers a valid and reliable screening tool that, at a minimum, assesses each student’s language, cognitive, and motor development.

The BCSD screens all Prekindergarten entrants using the BRIGANCE IED III. The district has established that the Brigance Screening and Progress Monitoring tools best meet the needs of the district and its students for the following reasons:

  • This diagnostic screening is administered once, upon a student’s initial entry to the school district and assesses language and literacy, cognitive skills, motor development and social emotional.

  • The district requires two (2) additional assessment dates at MOY and EOY for data tracking. It also allows teachers to progress monitor students at various intervals throughout the school year to track growth and learning for language and literacy, cognitive skills, and social emotional skills, all of which are required for state and grant compliance.

BCSD partners with Say Yes Buffalo and Help Me Grow to administer the ASQ-SE to all PK students in the district and in CBO sites.
