Ready for some football? Join the 2026 Buffalo Public Schools Modified Football Program!
Practices will take place Monday, August 17 through Saturday, August 22, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Waterfront Elementary School (95 Fourth Street).
This season, we are excited to offer two teams: Buffalo Blue and Buffalo White. We encourage families to review the school assignments for each team to determine which roster your student-athlete should join. Please note that both teams will practice together at Waterfront Elementary during the first week.

FAMILIES OF 7/8TH GRADERS!!!
The New York State Education Department (NYSED) recently revised the Athletic Placement Process (APP), which is required for middle school students (7th or 8th Graders) who wish to try out for a high school-level athletic team. Under the updated regulations, participation in the APP must be approved through the district's established process before a student may be eligible to try out for a JV or Varsity team.
To be considered for participation, families must complete the APP Request Form and carefully review the updated APP procedures and eligibility requirements.
Please note that completion of the APP does not guarantee a roster spot or team selection. Students who are approved through the APP process will be evaluated using the same team-selection criteria as all other athletes trying out for that team. Previously passing the old format of APP does not exempt any athlete from the new process. All athletes must complete the new process.

Join us in congratulating Ka'Ron Barnes as new Buffalo Athletics Executive Director! Ka’Ron has a storied basketball career, which has included playing NCAA Division 1, playing professionally in Europe, and being an assistant coach for the Army Black Knights men's basketball team, which represents the United States Military Academy at West Point. Mr. Barnes was previously a production assistant at ESPN covering multiple sports for SportsCenter, ESPNews, and NBA Fastbreak. Most recently, he served as Deputy Commissioner of Assessment & Taxation for the city of Buffalo. Mr. Barnes earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Economics and Management from Cornell and an MBA from the University at Buffalo.

🏅 2026 NYSPHSAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships Results 🏅
The Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts 4x100-meter relay team finished 8th in the Class C Finals, posting a time of 50.24 seconds.
Freshman Ambria Thompson of Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts earned a 5th-place finish in the Class C 200-meter Final with a time of 25.41 seconds.
Junior Henry Peterson of City Honors School captured the Class B 3200-meter State Championship, finishing 1st with a time of 9:15.33. He also placed 12th overall in the Federation Championships.
Junior Henry Peterson of City Honors School placed 4th in the Class B 1600-meter Championship Race with a time of 4:14.27, finishing 16th overall in the Federation Championships.
Junior Yerniel Colon Nieves of Hutchinson Central Technical High School earned a 5th-place finish in the Class A 400-meter Hurdles Final with a time of 55.19 seconds.
Senior Cardell Staples of McKinley High School placed 4th in the Class B High Jump, clearing 6 feet, 1 inch.

🏃♀️🏈⚽ Summer 2026 Athletic Placement Process (APP) Testing ⚽🏈🏃♂️
Are you a future 7th or 8th grade student interested in trying out for a JV or Varsity sport during the 2026-2027 school year? Participation at the high school level requires successful completion of the New York State Athletic Placement Process (APP).
The APP is a state-mandated evaluation process designed to determine whether a student-athlete is physically, emotionally, and athletically prepared to compete safely at a higher level of competition. It is important to remember that the APP is not intended to fill roster spots, provide a new athletic experience, or serve as an alternative when a modified program is unavailable. The purpose of the APP is to identify student-athletes who have demonstrated the readiness to compete at the junior varsity or varsity level while maintaining the safety and integrity of interscholastic athletics.
Families interested in pursuing APP should review the eligibility requirements, complete all necessary paperwork, and register through FinalForms prior to testing.
