DeTECHtives Program Hosts Second Annual Innovation Arena Highlighting Student Creativity, Collaboration, and AI Innovation
The Buffalo Public Schools DeTECHtives Program recently hosted its second annual Innovation Arena at the Center for Innovation, Technology, and Training. This year’s challenge engaged student teams in using artificial intelligence (AI) to design solutions for real-world problems impacting their schools and communities.
Students from Schools 37, 65, 76, 156, and 206 participated in the program, presenting innovative, student-designed solutions that highlighted creativity, collaboration, critical thinking, and purposeful technology integration. Projects addressed a range of needs, including language acquisition supports, social-emotional and character development tools, accessibility supports for community-based classrooms, Regents-level biology lab assistance, and cafeteria-based chatbot systems.
Teams presented their solutions in a Shark Tank–style format to a diverse panel of reviewers, the DeTECHtives Innovation Council, who provided feedback, asked questions, and engaged students in authentic dialogue around their designs and problem-solving processes.
Through the DeTECHtives Program, students engage in meaningful, challenge-based learning experiences that empower them to innovate, problem-solve, and lead while developing skills essential for a technology-driven future.
