As Black History Month winds down, BPS honors the legacy of Marian Anderson, born on this day in 1897. A celebrated contralto singer, she broke barriers for Black artists and paved the way for future generations in the arts.
BPS continues to honor Black History Month. On this day in 1870, Hiram Rhodes Revels became the first African American sworn into the U.S. Senate, representing Mississippi. His leadership paved the way for future Black lawmakers.
